FEDERAL JEWELRY

Are you commemorating the birth of Abraham Lincoln? War of 1812? Do you aspire to emulate Jane Austen? Here is your jewelry.

Upon the suggestion of a loyal patron, I have selected from my regular line of jewelry those items which are specifically suited to the Federal or Regency periods (c. 1785-1820).

You will find these pieces elsewhere in my Jewel Cabinet, but they are assembled here for your convenience in shopping for accessories to suit your late 18th c. or early 19th c. impression.

All earrings $25.00/pair unless specified otherwise.

When ordering jewelry, please add $7.00 shipping charges to your payment.
One shipping charge of $7.00 will cover the shipping costs of up to three items if ordered together.

Multiple strand necklaces of seed pearls or tiny coral beads were worn by 18th century women and girls of all ages. Beads such as these, too small to be individually knotted, were strung on stout thread and attached to ornamental box clasps. This necklace features three strands, 15", 15 1/2" and 16", of nicely dyed red coral beads suspended on silk from a sterling clasp with a sunburst motif.
$90.00

Here, top-quality 2.5mm freshwater cultured pearls in three strands, 15", 15 1/2", and 16", are strung on silk and fastened by the same style of sterling clasp.
$90.00

Here is the same necklace rendered in raspberry garnets, three strands, 15", 15 1/2", and 16" inches, strung on silk with a sterling sunburst clasp.
$90.00.

You may have more or fewer strands of similar beads of pearl, coral or garnet custom-strung for you. For example, a child's necklace, one 13"-15" strand of any of these beads on a smaller box-clasp, can be made at your request for $25.00. (not recommended for young children who chew on things!)

Cross: In the 18th century, crosses seem to have been much more commonly worn by Roman Catholics than by Protestants. Nevertheless, the sensibilities of modern Christian re-enactors of all denominations often inspire them to want to wear one.

To satisfy that desire, a simple, 18th century-style cross is offered here in sterling silver on a 1/4" black silk satin ribbon. The cross is 1" long, the ribbon 36" long so that you can wear it doubled and looped, or knotted as a pendant, as seen in period artwork.
$12.00

Online documentation: "A Woman with a Dog" (1740s),
by Giacomo Ceruti. http://www.metmuseum.org

The cross on a black ribbon became more commonly worn by Protestant women as the 18th c. turned into the 19th c. Jane Austen herself wore a topaz cross which was given to her by her brother in 1801.

~~In the Federal style, black silk satin ribbon bracelets with jeweled box clasps featuring faceted gemstones set in sterling silver. These must be custom fitted to your wrist size. Half-inch black silk satin ribbon, with white topaz clasps as described above. Usually these were worn in pairs.
$45.00 each, $85.00 a pair.
