FITTING ROOM

Directions for taking your measurements

You will need someone to help you take these measurements. The photographs of me measuring Samantha will show you exactly how I want your helper to measure you.

Put on a good supportive bra, and comfortable, fairly close-fitting clothing (a short nightgown, a leotard, or non-baggy T-shirt and leggings are good), and low heeled shoes. If you are being measured for stays or a gown, put on all your proper 18th century undergarments, including your shoes. Measurements for gowns and fitted jackets must be taken over stays, and also over any rump pads, false hips, or other underpinnings you intend to wear with the finished garment.

1.

Height, measure from the top of your head to the floor.

2.

Bust size, measure at fullest width.

3.

Waist size, measure at natural waistline.

4.

Center back torso length, measure from nape of neck to waist.

5.

Front neckline depth, measure from side of neck to point of bust (or to top edge of stays, please indicate which).

6.

Measure from top edge of stays to natural waistline.

7.

Total torso, measure from front waist over one shoulder to rear waist, as shown.

8.

Side torso length, measure from natural waistline to your armpit, (or to the top edge of your stays, please indicate which).

9.

Upper arm length, measure from the bony point on your shoulder down over your shoulder to the point on your elbow, your "funny bone".

10.

Upper arm girth, measure circumference at widest point.

11.

Armscye girth, measure as close to armpit as possible without constricting your arm.

12.

Elbow girth, measure circumference at narrow point of your arm just below the elbow.

13.

Upper back width, measure from the bony point on one shoulder across your back to the same point on the other shoulder.

14.

Side skirt length, measure from side waist down over your hip to your ankle bone (or to desired skirt length).

15.

Front skirt length, measure from the front of your waistline to desired skirt length.

16.

Back skirt length, measure from the back of your waistline to desired skirt length.

In addition, for gowns, stays and other fitted garments, since we will be "fitting" you without a hands-on fitting, I must respectfully request you to send us two full length photos of yourself, wearing the clothing in which your measurements were taken. Have your measuring-helper photograph you standing against a fairly neutral background, like a door, and take a full front view and a side profile view. These do not have to be fancy photos, just clear ones; jpgs or snapshots are fine.
